Why this petition?
This petition was started because many people in Calgary-Hays have ongoing concerns about how MLA Ric McIver is representing the community. As Minister of Municipal Affairs, he has supported legislation that some feel takes decision-making power away from local communities and weakens municipal accountability. Many constituents also say they have had trouble getting meaningful, timely replies or any reply at all when they reach out with questions or concerns. Additionally, residents have been frustrated by the lack of progress on important local issues like infrastructure, education, and other community needs in southeast Calgary.

The petition application states, “We, the undersigned electors of Calgary-Hays, seek to recall MLA Ric McIver for failing to represent the interests of his constituents. As Minister of Municipal Affairs, he has supported legislation that reduces local democratic control and weakens municipal accountability. His record shows limited progress on infrastructure, education, and community priorities in southeast Calgary. Past ethical concerns have further eroded public trust. Together, these actions demonstrate a loss of confidence in his ability to serve effectively and transparently on behalf of the people of Calgary-Hays”
